As we get older, many of us develop spider veins on our legs, face, arms and other parts of our body. The appearance of these prominent, unattractive veins are not only a nuisance, but in some cases they can cause discomfort. Asclera is a FDA approved sclerosing agent that is injected, using a very fine needle, into the vein causing it to seal shut. This prevents the flow of blood through the affected vein and can efficiently eliminate swelling, bulging, discomfort and discoloration associated with reticular veins (blue) or spider veins (purple.)
A typical sclerotherapy session lasts 20 minutes. One injection is usually administered per inch, with multiple injections per session. Post treatment, compression stockings or support hose should be worn continuously for 2-3 days and for 2-3 weeks during the day time. For most patients, results will be evident in one to three treatments and can be evaluated within a few days after the treatment. Some patients may require additional treatments to address stubborn veins.
